QiDi Box Multi-Filament System for the Plus 4 Series

The QiDi Box for the Plus 4 Series is a multi-filament system with 4 independent channels, designed for multicolor printing and working with various types of materials. The device supports 1.75 mm diameter filaments, automatic spool switching, drying up to 65°C during printing, temperature and humidity monitoring, and intelligent recognition of QIDI filaments via NFC. A single QIDI Box holds 4 spools, and when the system is expanded to 4 units, you can use up to 16 colors or materials, allowing you to complete more complex projects without frequent manual filament changes.

Four independent channels and dual gearboxes

The feed system uses dual gearboxes made of hardened steel and four separate 42-type stepper motors—one for each channel. The design is adapted for both popular filaments and more demanding composite materials reinforced with carbon or glass fiber. The QIDI Box supports, among others, PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PET, PA, PC, PVA, and BVOH (after drying), PP, POM, HIPS, TPU 64D, and select CF and GF materials.

Drying up to 65°C and humidity control

The QIDI Box allows for simultaneous filament drying and printing, with a maximum drying temperature of 65°C. An airtight storage compartment, combined with the option to use a desiccant, helps minimize the impact of moisture on the filament, which is particularly important for hygroscopic materials. Temperature and humidity are monitored in real time, and their values can be checked on the screen and in the QIDI Studio software.

Automatic Spool Change and Issue Detection

The automatic filament refilling feature allows the printer to switch to a spare spool when the currently used material runs out. This feature reduces the risk of unnecessarily interrupting long prints while allowing for more efficient use of remaining material on spools. The system also monitors for filament shortages, tangles, and jams, enabling it to respond appropriately to issues with proper filament feeding.

NFC and Printing with Support Materials

NFC support enables automatic recognition of compatible QIDI filaments and adjustment of their settings without the need to manually enter parameters. The QIDI Box’s multi-material design also allows for the use of a separate support filament, including materials designed to be easily snapped off or dissolved, which facilitates the printing of models with more complex geometries. However, for PVA and BVOH, the material must be properly dried before use.

Compatibility and Safety Precautions

Not every 1.75 mm filament is compatible with the QIDI Box. Among others, the system does not support TPE, standard TPU, TPU 95A, QIDI PAHT-CF, damp PVA and BVOH, certain Silk filaments (including PLA Silk), and glow-in-the-dark PLA, as well as other materials with excessive stiffness or flexibility. The device is also equipped with a smart PTC fuse and two temperature sensors that monitor operating conditions and automatically cut off the power supply upon detection of an abnormal temperature.
