How to choose: For transmitters and frequent use, pick low self-discharge NiMH AAs/AAAs and keep cells as a numbered set. Avoid mixing old/new or different brands/capacities. Do not replace AA/AAA with 14500/10440 Li-ion (3.7 V) unless your device explicitly supports it.
