Creality Pika 3D Scanner

The Creality Pika 3D Scanner is a compact device that uses 7 parallel blue laser lines and NIR structured light, allowing it to scan both small details and larger objects. It offers an accuracy of up to 0.03 mm, a 3D resolution ranging from 0.1 to 2 mm, and a scanning speed of up to 110 frames per second, and the supported object size range is from 10 × 10 × 10 mm to 2000 × 2000 × 2000 mm. Measuring 100 × 60 × 35 mm and weighing 260 g, the Pika is easy to carry, and its 3-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi 6, and two interchangeable 3350 mAh batteries make it easy to work away from a fixed workstation. The scanner can connect wirelessly to Android and iOS smartphones as well as Windows and macOS computers; however, iOS devices do not support a wired connection.

Two scanning modes for small and large objects

The 7-parallel-line blue laser mode is designed for accurately capturing fine details and complex contours, making it ideal for scanning models, figurines, or technical parts. It offers accuracy of up to 0.03 mm, a resolution of 0.1–2 mm, and a working distance of 160–400 mm. NIR structured light, on the other hand, offers accuracy of up to 0.1 mm, a resolution of 0.15–2 mm, and a longer working distance of 140–1,000 mm, making it suitable for scanning larger objects and human silhouettes.

Up to 110 fps and the ability to scan in bright environments

When used with a computer, Pika achieves a speed of up to 110 fps in blue laser mode and up to 30 fps in NIR mode, allowing for efficient capture of successive surface segments as the scanner is moved. When used with a smartphone, the maximum speeds are 40 fps and 20 fps, respectively. The blue laser allows operation at light intensities of up to 110,000 lux, while NIR mode with the appropriate filter enables scanning under lighting conditions of up to 80,000 lux, minimizing the impact of intense light on the captured data.

Color, Black Surfaces, and Markerless Scanning

The Creality Pika supports color mapping, and NIR mode allows for 24-bit color capture, enabling the model to preserve not only the geometry but also information about the surface appearance. The device also allows for scanning black and metallic objects without the need to apply scanning spray beforehand, which reduces the time required to prepare the object for digitization. In blue laser mode, alignment can be performed using markers, global markers, or without markers, while NIR mode can utilize the object’s geometry or texture.

Compact design and replaceable batteries

With dimensions of 100 × 60 × 35 mm and a weight of just 260 g including the battery, the scanner can be comfortably operated with one or two hands and easily taken into the field. The kit includes two 3350 mAh replaceable batteries, so when one runs out, you can swap it out for a spare and continue working. The Pika also features a 3-inch touchscreen, an 8-core 2.0 GHz processor, Wi-Fi 6, and a USB Type-C / USB 3.0 interface.

CrealityScan – From Scanning to a Finished Model

The CrealityScan software provides an environment that encompasses scanning, image and point cloud processing, optimization, and basic editing of the resulting model. Finished projects can be exported in STL, OBJ, PLY, and ASC formats, allowing you to transfer them to other software and use them for modeling, 3D printing, or digital archiving, among other applications. Pika thus allows you to go from a real-world object to digital geometry, which can then be refined, modified, and used in future projects.
